Help Promote the Plant Sale
Send this "postcard" along with a note to invite your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to the March 7, Certified Organic Spring Vegetable Sale and general entertainment at 9:00 am, 4814 Sunshine Drive, Tx 78756. Go to the website for more information.
Pass-a-long plants
If you have any plants you want to contribute to the plant sale, now is the time to do it. There is potting soil in the greenhouse and pots. After potting up the plants on the potting bench along the side of the greenhouse, label them with the name of the plant and leave them on the potting bench.
Why Our Soil is Important
As gardeners we all know that we need soil in order to grow plants, but soil also acts as holder of carbon. This removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and deposits it as carbon in the soil. Plants use carbon in the air to transform into carbohydrates to feed themselves and send the excess carbohydrates through their roots into the soil where the soil organisms feed. What this amounts to is a system that controls the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Bare soil will release the carbon back into the air, by clearing our land we increase the amount of carbon dioxide. By returning plant material to the soil we contribute to the soil's ability to control carbon dioxide. While this is only a small part of the earth's ecology, we can as gardeners can contribute in a small way to keeping the earth's major resource functioning at its optimum level.
