If you are signed up to receive the Weekly Weeder and have not been receiving it, here is a troubleshooting page to help. If this doesn't help, please let Sharon at scgardenweb@gmail.com know. Thanks.
Thanks to Gardeners, Chris Correll and Robert Jarry
A big thanks to Chris for redoing the compost screens and another big thanks to Robert Jarry for redoing the bulletin board on the tool shed. Please admire their handiwork and give them thanks when you see them.
Prevent Crime at SCG - Get to Know Your Fellow Gardeners
Scene of the Crime: SCG's Compost Area
When: Last Saturday afternoon
Alleged Perpetrators: two women, one white and one black, probably in their fifties
Other identifying info: Driving a blue hatchback.
The Crime: The women proceeded to fill SCG's buckets with compost and drove off when confronted about it.
How you can Help: Get to know your neighbors and other gardeners. Be vigilant. If something looks suspicious, ask questions, but do not endanger yourself. A photo of a license plate would be a big help. Last spring it was hoses disappearing, this year it is compost.
Avoiding Skin Cancer while Gardening at SCG
Ila Falvey recommends you review the following blog to protect yourself from skin cancer while gardening at SCG. https://blog.skincancer.org/2017/08/11/dress-to-protect-5-things-that-affect-how-well-your-clothes-block-uv-rays/
Vegetable Plants Donated to Garden
Bill Cason writes, "My wife, Kerry Howell, has dropped off a donation of about 200 plants (tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, and a few eggplants) to be added to the plant sale. The sets are in good condition and there are some varieties that were not included in the plant sale. They are in the southeast corner of the greenhouse." THANKS KERRY AND BILL!
Exotic Pepper Photos - Do You Want to Participate?
A few Sunshine gardeners are pulling together close up photos of the various exotic peppers that are now becoming available to grow in Austin (for example through the Sunshine Benefit Plant Sale. The Photos will have a home on our website at http://sunshinecommunitygardens.org/cgi-bin/peppers.cgi.
If you want to be a part of this, there are two ways to participate in bringing together this collection of 40-50 pepper photos:
- Take on an assigned partial list of peppers and find close-up, copyright free or permitted photos from the internet. There will be specific instructions provided of preparing these to submit to Sharon, the SCG webmaster.
- Provide close-up photos that you have personally taken. Again, you will be provided with instructions on size, format and filename needed by our webmaster.
If interested in joining the Exotic Pepper Photo Project, please contact Charlotte Jernigan, charlotte@cybermesa.com.
