Attention all gardeners!
The SCG is hosting the Annual Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour (FCCT) this weekend. The event starts moving into the gardens on Friday, the 18th at 1pm. It will run all day Saturday the 19th. All gardener vehicle traffic is prohibited from Friday the 18th starting at 12pm until Sunday the 20th at first light. We apologize for the inconvenience but treat it as we do our annual plant sale.
Thank you in advance!, The Board

Amendments to the Bylaws Approved
The amendments to the Bylaws have been approved by a unanimous vote of the members present at the called membership meeting on Saturday, April 12. Forty-one members attended the meeting, more than fulfilling the requirement of a quorum made of 10% of the membership. As chairperson of the committee to revise the Site Rules and amend the Bylaws, I wish to thank Janet Adams, Kathleen Cobb, Cheryl Hazeltine, Kay McMurray, and Philip Wylie for their many hours of meeting time resulting in a careful and thoughtful agreement on changes they determined were in the best interest of the garden, and our relationship with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Meetings to discuss the changes to the Site Rules will be announced. The changes are posted on the website. Voting on the revisions to the Site Rules will occur at the May 31 membership meeting.

Plant Sale Final Number
Congratulations to all gardeners and volunteers who helped make the annual plant sale a success! After reviewing the numbers and paying all invoices associated with the sale, we are happy to report that we put over $20K in our bank account. This will help to keep the water flowing and annual dues at a manageable level. A job well done everyone. Next year's sale is March 7th, 2015.

Fire Ant treatment on hold

Events of Interest to Gardeners
Rebates for Compost, Mulch and
Aerating:
Great news! The City of Austin is offering rebates for things
we should all be doing in our yards - mulching plants & trees,
and aerating & topdressing our lawns. If you do all three
things (according to their rules, of course) you can get as much
as $180 back! Buy what you need, and be sure to keep your receipts.
For rules and more details, visit the City of Austin's
website.
6th Annual Coop Tour celebrates DIY backyard farmers feeding Austin community heart and soul
Check out the new Funky Chicken Coop Tour Headquarters on April 19, 2014, at Sunshine Community Gardens, 4814 Sunshine Drive, Austin, Texas 78756. Enjoy a full day of free family and educational activities, including live poultry, educational booths, and a new speaker series. Don't miss our keynote presentation: "Economic Impact of Austin's Food Sector - and the Importance of Buying Local" at noon!
FCCT has partnered with urban food groups throughout Austin to build a community that supports making healthy, local food available to everyone. The Tour is supporting Keep Austin Fed for a community egg drive on Tour day.
The tour will have 14 coops, including both backyard and community participants. In addition to schools and a farm, a Community First! Village is on the tour. Visitors will see how collaboration between volunteers, artists, and the homeless-and formerly homeless--work to create the Genesis Gardens program.
Maps are $12 each and can be shared with everyone in your touring party. Create your own custom tour, on two wheels or four. You can join the Bicycle Tour de Funky Chickens, hosted by the Austin Cycling Association. Rides for various levels and distances will be available.
This year's tour benefits the New Farm Institute, which is "working to inspire a new generation of sustainable farmers in the urban fringe." FCCT in partnership with the Austin Permaculture Guild will create a food forest for our beneficiary. The tour is an event of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Urban Poultry Association of Texas, Inc. and welcomes your donations.
