Meetings and Electing a New Board
Two important meetings are coming up. The first is this Saturday for new gardeners (4/28). And the second all gardeners meeting on May 19 is the same meeting during which board elections will occur. The election is for 3 board members. We are very lucky that we do not need a secretary this year; Polly Porter is still in the middle of her term.
For Sunshine Garden Members interested in being a part of the board, please contact the nominating committee: Scott Morris, Marianne Mulrey, Kristin Phillips and Jennifer Woertz. there are a number of people already interested in serving -- thank you! If you are interested in serving, please email the team your statement of interest, a brief bio and contact information so that the team can compile the nominations information for the ballots.
Upcoming Events
- Saturday, April 28 at 10am New Gardener Saturday, meant for folks who are already at the garden but have questions about how things work. There will be a labor hour given for attending.
- Saturday, April 28, 9 to 12. Keep Austin Beautiful Resource Give Away Day (trees and tools) at LBJ High School
Thank You to Snooze
Snooze has adopted Sunshine as a beneficiary of their generosity that focuses on supporting their 501(c)(3) neighbors. Not only have they made a financial contribution to Sunshine but the they donated their time and energy. On April 12 employees of Snooze volunteered to work on the flower beds at Sunshine on April 12. Their help was much appreciated.
A big thank you to Snooze and their employees for being a friend to Sunshine. As stated on their web site "as neighbors we are committed to being a part of the community. We strive to be good neighbors and are committed to being a part of the communities where we live." http://snoozeeatery.com/

It's About Thyme: Closing After 39 Years
It is with heavy hearts that we announce today that It's About Thyme Garden Center will close its doors mid-summer. As many of you know, we have been struggling for the past few years to find a new location and new owners for our business... but have been unsuccessful on both fronts. Up until last weekend we thought we had a chance of holding our lease for another year - but it was not to be, and we need to vacate our premises by the middle of the summer.
So we have both made the difficult decision to close our business after 39 years and retire. In this we are joining a list of many iconic Austin businesses that are struggling to survive within the economics of the 'new Austin.'
We thank all of you for your friendship and support through all these years, and honestly, the hardest part of closing will be saying goodbye to all of you, our customers, who have been dropping in on a regular basis for veggies and roses and trees and perennials every spring and fall for so many years. Thank you for everything.
However, rather than doom and gloom we want to make these final months as joyful as possible, and make them a time for reflection on all of the good times we have had at the nursery through the many, many years that we have been in business. Please continue to visit us! (We will remain fully stocked through the end of May.) If you have gift cards, be sure to come by and spend them soon.
in gratitude,
Diane and Chris
