MICAH 6 Food Pantry Project News:
Our first Thursday spring delivery to the Micah 6 Food Pantry will be coming up tomorrow, June 5. Donations will be needed by 2:30 PM Thursday for the afternoon delivery. We have already harvested over 25 pounds of tomatoes and squash with more to be harvested today and Thursday morning. We need some volunteers to help harvest the eggplants, peppers, tomatoes and more squash in the Micah 6 garden (but not the butter nut squash yet!). Also gardeners are encouraged to donate what they can by washing their donations, if needed, and placing them either in the refrigerator or in the cool room. There are clear plastic bags on a roll in the cool room. Also, we will be making a second delivery Saturday morning around 9:00 AM.
As vacations begin, we ask gardeners to consider donating at least some of your produce to this food pantry. You may identify your plot by number by putting an adhesive dot on the map in your plot AND placing a flag (located in the corner of the cool room) in your plot. This helps the harvester to be sure to harvest from the correct plot! Please write instructions for volunteer harvesters on the white board in the cool room and include beginning and ending dates.
We really need harvesters and delivery folks especially during the summer months. You won't have to deliver frequently. Those who volunteer to support this project at any time are given credit on their required service hours. We know the weather is challenging at present. Folks' need for nutritious food is ongoing no matter what the weather!
If you are available to assist with harvesting or delivering, please let Dana Kuykendall (kuykendall@austin.rr.com), 512.496.6575 or Mary Gifford (mgifford@austin.rr.com), 512.453.9742 know if you can help in any way.

6th Annual Tomato Tasting
Our 6th Annual Tomato Tasting event will be held on Saturday, June 11, from 9-11 am. Please come and taste what's ripe. We will have paper bags in the trailer so you can drop off tomatoes starting on Thursday, June 9, or bring 'em on Saturday, June 1. Please label the bag with the variety and your name (optional). If you grew potatoes and/or peppers this year and would like to show them off, please bring them to the tasting on Saturday. We will have a form you can fill out with the details of how you grew them.
We also need volunteers to help set up tables and slice tomatoes. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Kay McMurry (scg.plots@gmail.com) or Randy Thompson (jartdaht@gmail.com).
Gail Reese will be conducting the potato show-and-tell, which was a big hit last year. Steve Uecker will be in charge of the pepper tasting.
