Tomato Tasting Results
Despite our record May rains that have made this less than an ideal growing season, 45 varieties of tomatoes were sampled at this year's tomato tasting and potato demonstration.
Top Finishers (in order):
- Super Sweet 100
- Black Cherry
- Sun Gold
- Rhodia
- Lime Green Salad
- Cherokee Purple
- Carmelita
- Juliet
Quite the year for small fruits! Full results are at the website and thanks to everyone who came.
Micah 6 Update
We are now delivering Thursdays at 3:00 PM and Saturdays at 9:00 AM. More volunteers are needed. If you are available to assist with harvesting or delivering, please let Dana Kuykendall (kuykendall@austin.rr.com), 512.496.6575 or Mary Gifford (mgifford@austin.rr.com), 512.453.9742 know if you can help in any way. Volunteer hours count towards service hours.
Pounds delivered the last 2 weeks:
June 9 and 11: 171.5 Pounds
June 16 and 18: 337.5 Pounds
Service hours - Due 6/30
The service hours required per season per full plot are 8 regular hours and 4 hours per half or quarter plot. All gardeners must complete 1 TSBVI hour regardless of size.
The following tasks qualify as TSBVI service hours:
- TSBVI Garden
- Replenish wood chips on west side by TSBVI bldg
- Weed the rock bed on west side next to TSBVI bldg.
- Weed rock bed / shower area between north side of TSBVI bldg and fence
- Fence area along 49th St. and Sunshine Dr.
- Mowing and edging from fence to street and inside of fence
- Clear fence line of hack-berries and Johnson grass. NOTE: Do not remove vines that produce the red berries for birds.
- Bus stop on Sunshine Drive (The stop has been adopted by Sunshine.)
- Clean and weed area
- Graffiti should be reported to a board member.
- Compost Area
- Mowing and cleaning up trash
- Raised beds area on west side of parking lots
- Weeding Granite paths
Scheduled Workdays
To help gardeners complete their service hours before the June 30 deadline, workdays below have been scheduled.
- Saturday, June 25, 8:00-11:00 am / Note earlier start time
- Sunday, June 26, 8:00-11:00 am / Note earlier start time
The workdays will include projects which qualify for TSBVI service hours.
Remember to record your service hours in the Green Binder on the Sunshine website!
Site Rule Reminder - 2 Foot Rule
Site Rule I.D.1.d. requires gardeners maintain a 2 foot strip of any common path or area bordering their plot. Doing so not only helps keep the common paths clear but also will reduce weeds invading the plot from the common area. Time spent maintaining common paths and common areas does count as regular service hours.
