Micah 6 Update
We are now delivering Thursdays at 3:00 PM and Saturdays at 9:00 AM. More volunteers are needed. Volunteer hours count towards service hours. More volunteers are needed!
Volunteer Opportunity
Would you like a steady volunteer job at Sunshine Gardens where you no longer have to scramble for volunteer hours twice a year? If so, the coveted job of rat-baiters is available. During the busy growing season, the bait needs replacing about once a month and in the winter and early spring, every six weeks or so. The job involves searching for the rat bait stations, unlocking them and putting the rat bait inside. That's it - there are about 20 around the garden and most are marked with a blue flag.
Training is available from the former volunteers in this position who have moved outside of Austin. If interested, please contact Jean at jean.flahive@gmail.com or Janet (Volunteer Coordinator) at jartdaht@gmail.com.
SCG Compost
There is compost ready on the east side of the biggest pile - there are signs but they are hard to see unless near the fence.

What to do in your garden in July!
Sow Seeds
Vegetables: Amaranth, Black Eyed Peas, Corn, Cucumbers, Malabar Spinach, New Zealand Spinach, Okra, Pumpkin, Summer Squash, Winter Squash.
Use the 4th of July holiday as your reminder to plant pumpkins in order to get nice, big Jack o' Lanterns in time for Halloween!
Fruits: Cantaloupe, Watermelon.
Annuals: Cosmos, Gourds, Morning Glory.
Transplants
Vegetables: Eggplant, Peppers, Tomatoes
Herbs: Basil, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme.
Annuals: Blue Daze, Gazania, Geranium, Gomphrena, Marigolds, Periwinkle, Portulaca, Purslane, Zinnia.
Perennials: Black-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Weed, Copper Canyon Daisy, Cupheas, Coreopsis, Shasta Daisy, Ox-Eye Daisy, Four-Nerve Daisy, Daylily, Eupatoriums (including Gregg's Mistflower), Goldenrod, Kniphofia, Lamb's Ears, Lantana, Plumbago, Ruellias, Salvias.
