Message From SCG'S President
Hi, I'm Steve Uecker, and I'm honored to serve you as your new president. Thank you to all gardeners who pitched in at the workdays, or worked independently on service projects in June. The site looks wonderful. This is your garden, and without your participation, it wouldn't be possible. In its June meeting, the board discussed a number of topics including finances, trail maintenance, WIFI on the site and battery-electric mowers. The board's next meeting is on Tuesday, July 16 at 6 PM in the garden trailer. You're invited to attend board meetings, and we'll also have a general membership meeting in September to watch for. If you have ideas to improve the gardening experience at Sunshine, I'd like to hear them. Please don't hesitate to contact me at steven_uecker@hotmail.com or reach out to your zone coordinator. Thanks!
Please Check the Front Gate Lock
I have been finding it open and dialed to the combination most days that I get to the garden. Please remind people that if they unlock the gate, that they should lock the lock back onto the gate and dial it off the combination. If they arrive later and find it unlocked and hanging from the gate, they should lock it onto the gate. Too many times, someone has walked off with the unlocked lock. If it's left on the combination, then the thief now has a functioning lock and also knows our combination. Our safety is compromised when the lock is not shut.
Thanks, Kay

Safe Gardening Tips From Medicare
Gardening this summer? Whether you're new to gardening or have a green thumb, remember to keep your health and safety a priority.
Did you know that gardeners can be prone to tetanus infections?Tetanus lives in the soil and enters the body through breaks in the skin, especially when using sharp tools, digging in the dirt, or handling plants with sharp points.
Before you start gardening this season:
- Make sure your tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccination is up-to-date. Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) generally covers shots needed to prevent illness. Contact your Medicare drug plan for more information about coverage.
- Use a good set of gardening gloves, which can help lower the risk for skin irritations and cuts.
