Volunteer needed in the Micah Garden
The Micah 6 gardens are in need of a volunteer. An orphan garden needs someone to plant the fall crop. Susan Hoberman, the coordinator is looking for someone to join this group of jolly gardeners. Come have fun gardening.
The Micah 6 gardens are 12 beds near the trailer which are cultivated by volunteer gardeners. The produce the garden generates is used to contribute home grown and organic vegetables to a food pantry in central Austin.
If you are interested email Susan Hoberman: susie124@sbcglobal.net. She will meet you at Sunshine and show you the bed before you decide. The Micah 6 pantry will appreciate your efforts.
Just a Reminder
Micah 6 is happy to deliver any of your extra veggies to the food pantry. We drop them off on Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning. You can place donated vegetables in the refrigerator in the trailer (if perishable) or on the table in the air conditioned trailer space.
We ask that you clean and bag the vegetables before placing them in the fridge. There is a roll of plastic grocery bags on the table.

Helping Is Easy
Austin Urban Farms could use your help right now. The City is changing the Urban Farm Code and we need your support to ensure that Austin's Urban Farms can continue to provide fresh, nutritious food to all Austinites. We would appreciate it if you could make your voice heard.
- Go to our website www.AustinUrbanFarms.org and understand the issue. While you're there, sign up to be a public supporter of Austin's urban farmers and neighbors.
- Contact the Austin City Council members and Commissioners who will be making these decisions. You can find their contact information at www.AustinUrbanFarms.org.
- Attend an upcoming meeting of the city's Planning Commission, Community Development Commission or City Council meetings (the dates are on our website) and speak on behalf of urban farmers (such as Boggy Creek Farm, Hausbar Farms, Springdale Farm and Rain Lily) in our neighborhoods.

The Sustainable Food Policy Board is an advisory body to the City Council and Travis County Commissioners' Court concerning the need to improve the availability of safe, nutritious, locally, and sustainably-grown food at reasonable prices for all residents, particularly those in need. The board does this by coordinating the relevant activities of city government, as well as non-profit organizations, and food and farming businesses.

Singing in the Rain
The editor is pleased to report that she got a little over 2" in her rain gauge over the past three days. As her rain gauge is 4 blocks from Sunshine she assumes the garden got roughly the same amount.
Mentoring opportunity
We often have new gardeners who are new to gardening. We're looking for seasoned gardeners who wish to share their expertise and gardening wisdom with the newbies or with people on the wait list. Mentoring can take as little or as much time as you want. Mentoring might involve showing them your plot and talking about how you do things to having them help you maintain your plot. To get ready for the fall garden add compost and till into soil. Plant fall squash, pumpkins, okra, beans, Eggplant, cucumbers and winter squash.
