All Gardeners' Meeting - September 22nd

Garden Maintenance
Cooler temps and wonderful rains and a turkey compost sale all signal a great start for fall gardening at SCG. In addition to working our individual plots, please see below for information on maintaining our common paths and borders surrounding and within our plots. The weeds and bermuda grass are loving the rains, too, and can create a nuisance when they want to spread along the common paths and into your plot and your neighbors' plot. Please be aware that work needs to be done to keep it in check; it is our responsibility to keep it under control.
From the Bylaws - Here are the Rules Regarding Boundaries and Borders
- Sunshine Gardens' Collective space is divided into individual plots with shared borders which requires being considerate of neigboring gardeners. Vegetables and ornamentals, including their trellises or similar supporting structures should not be planted/placed so close to plot boundries that:
- the plants cannot be cultivated or harvested without entering a neighboring plot,
- a plant or structure casts excessive shade on a neighboring plot, or
- a plant or structure otherwise enccroaches on a neighboring plot. (Rule I.E.1)
- One-foot strip inside plot along common borders with adjoining plots must be kept free of weeds (Bermuda grass, bindweed, etc.) (Rule I.D.1.e.)
- Gardener must maintain two feet into paths and common area beyond the surrounding border of plot. (Rule I.D.1.d.)
- Plot must not encroach on paths identified and laid out as common paths by the board. Paths (other than common paths) between adjacent plots sharing a border shall be arranged by the gardeners of the two plots by mutual consent.. (Rule I.E.6.)
Be Kind to Your Neighbors and Mow Between the Plots
We are each responsible to mow between plots. Bob Easter says: "I have grass that is over 5 inches tall on both sides of my plots. I repair tools that take a lot of time and also deliver bark mulch between the paths around my garden and watering stations. I just feel like they (other gardeners) could at least mow their grass. It is taking over some sites which means I have to spend time fighting what others fail to do when they fail to maintain their responsibility."
