Zone Coordinator's Corner
Charlotte Jernigan, Zone 6 Coordinator, writes as follows:
Greetings from your eleven SCG Zone Coordinators. Happy Fall 2020...and what a strange trip it's been! Our most recent ZC Meeting, led by VP Jim Willmann, was virtual on Zoom. Silver lining? Below is a picture of some of us who attended.
We are your representatives! Your Zone Coordinator is your advocate and interface to the SCG Board. We work closely with the VP to brainstorm, craft and edit improvements to the Sunshine operating procedures that are documented in the Sites Rules. Since we run the Sunshine Workdays (on pause due to Covid-19 precautions) we are lucky to get to meet members from all over the garden on those days too. So, we are of the people, by the people and for the people.
Two of the most important roles within this mandate are solving member's plot problems and enforcing Plot Compliance guidelines. Please help us out in Fall 2020 by following these fewer, modified, much more gentle quarantine compliance points:
- Maintain the 12-inch inside rule: All plots must keep a one foot inside perimeter free of weeds and grasses. Why? This is your interface to your neighbor and becomes the greatest source of tension between neighbors when neglected.
- Maintain the 2-foot outside rule: Keep common paths weeded and chipped or grass borders edged and mowed. This work counts as regular service hours.
- Please complete both your TBVSI & Regular Service Hours, before 12-31-2020, by independent action. Both the website and the Weekly Weeder have a list of tasks. (See Below)
If you have any questions or concerns about your plot, about service hours or compliance during quarantine or about Sunshine operations, please contact your ZC. We are listed below and on the SCG website under the Contacts tab. Thanks for your support!
Lost Item
Mary Gifford's stainless steel spading fork is missing. It was last seen on Wednesday, Oct. 21 between 12:15 and 2: 30 PM. Mary left her fork in the Micah 6 garden where she was working Wednesday while she went to screen compost. If you have found her stainless steel spading fork or have any information about it, please contact Mary at mgifford@austin.rr.com.
New Cordless String Trimmers and Policy for Using
Have you tried to use one of the string trimmers only to discover it was out of string and then get frustrated trying to restring it. Hopefully, this situation will occur less frequently with the two new cordless string trimmers Sunshine recently purchased and a new policy for use of the new trimmers. To promote proper use and safety, all gardeners using the new trimmers will need to receive an orientation from Steve Camp, cordless tool coordinator. Steve plans to hold orientations on the first and third Saturday in November at 10 am in trailer porch area (social distancing and masks will be required). If neither of these times work for you or you have any questions, contact Steve at stcole431@yahoo.com. To ensure users of the new trimmers have been through the orientation, the trimmers will be secured with a combination lock and the combination shared only with gardeners completing the orientation.
