THE 2ND ANNUAL SUNSHINE GARDEN TOMATO TASTING

The results are in!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Sunshine’s second annual tomato tasting! You made it a big success by generously donating your tomatoes and by tasting the wide range of tomatoes we grow here at the garden. The variety was truly amazing.

Thanks for all of the comments and votes. We did not count the varieties at the tasting, but 69 varieties did receive comments and we’ve compiled the results, which will be posted on the bulletin board.

The short version is as follows (varieties must have received at least 6 votes in each category:

Black Cherry, Cherokee Purple, Mortgage Lifter, Persimmon, J.D.'s Special C-Tex (small purple ones), Lemon Boy Hybrid, Michael Pollan, Lime Green Salad, Beduin, and Tangella.

Top 10 tomatoes with best texture (in order):
Black Cherry, Big Sungold Select, Sweet Million, Berkeley Tie Dye, Juliet, Cherokee Purple, Bella Rosa, Beduin, Black and Brown Boar, and Lemon Boy Hybrid.

Top 10 most attractive tomatoes (in order):
Black Cherry, Beduin, Black and Brown Boar, Berkeley Tie Dye, J.D.'s Special C-Tex (small purple ones), Cherokee Purple, Persimmon, Brandy Boy, Big Daddy, and Juliet.

The questionnaire results were:

Please let us know if you have any suggestions on how to improve the tomato tasting for next year.

Thanks,
Ila Falvey and Kay McMurry
