FALL SEASON RENEWALS AND UNWORKED SPRING SERVICE HOURS BILLING
Midyear invoices were sent out by email on August 4th for unworked spring season service hours and renewal balances for the remaining for the fall 2012 season.
We apologize for the late distribution of the July billings. Please drop off your payments in the garden trailer in the drop slot in the office door (past the refrigerator and down to the end of the hallway) as soon as possible.
If you have questions about your bill for unworked service hours, please contact Sue Brownlee, scgsecretary@gmail.com.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOUR OPPORTUNITY
The School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is in need of continued help maintaining their plot over the summer months. Many of you have helped water, which is much appreciated. There are additional opportunities to water, but there is great need for weeding in the aisles.
If you are able to help weed or water please contact Mike Meyer (meyermic2001@yahoo.com).
MID-SUMMER CLEANU
It's the time of the summer growing season when the tomatoes are mostly done and spring plantings nearly spent. Even though there's at least 2 more months of hot weather, find some time during the less hot times of day to clear out dead or spent plants and those weeds that seem to grow best when the temperature is above 100. And it's time to clear some space for your fall garden.
Vegetables to Plant in August

West Nile Virus detected at Sunshine Community Garden
Once again, mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been detected at the garden. Most people bitten by mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus do not develop any symptoms. People most at risk at developing serious symptoms are those with weakened immune systems, older or very young people, and pregnant women.
Protect yourself with mosquito repellent and please remember to dump out standing water and clean out water bowls at least once a week. Mosquitoes can complete their life cycles in very small volumes of water in as few as 5 days. Even a brief rain shower can creates many suitable places for mosquito larvae
