Sensory-Friendly Concert - Free

Date: Jan 25, 2020 - 12:00 noon - 3 pm at :

Kick Butt Coffee, 5775 Airport Blvd., Suite 725, Austin, TX 78752

The Autism Society of Texas (AST) will host a Free, casual, sensory-friendly concert on January 25th at Kick Butt Coffee, featuring:

• The New Motown (Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired)
• Paradise (The Center for Music Therapy)
• Invoke (University of Texas, Butler School of Music)

Bring the family out for an eclectic afternoon of jazz, rock, and classical music.

AST is committed to ensuring a positive, inclusive musical experience for every performer and audience member. Earplugs and sensory manipulatives will be available. Our goal is to host similar concerts later in the year with the help of expert performers, social workers, and teachers.

Safety at the Garden

Tennis Ball covers for rebar stakes

Many of you will recall last year's suggestion by gardener, Bob Easter, to use tennis balls to cover rebar used to mark plot boundaries. A gardener, inspired by Bob Easter's talk on safety in the garden, swung into action and prepared tennis balls for you with which you can cover your stakes. The tennis balls are by the tool shed - please help yourself.

"Sharing Your Begonias" with The Austin Area Begonia Society

January 26th, 2020 - 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Austin Area Begonia Society invites you to join them for this month's meeting where everyone will be sharing their plants and growing tips! Bring your favorite plant or a problem plant. We will give our best tips on how we are keeping our plants alive in the cooler weather.

Cost: Free with general admission.

If you are a member of this club or ZBGC, you do not have to pay admission.

"Maria Sibylla Merian: Pioneering Butterfly Artist and Naturalist"
with Liz Cannedy & Dan Hardy - Austin Butterfly Forum's Monthly Meeting

January 27th, 2020 - 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Join us for the Austin Butterfly Forum's January Meeting with a thrilling presentation about the legend, Maria Sibylla Merian! In an age when women in science were rare, Maria Sibylla Merian not only studied and painted butterflies and caterpillars in 17th century, but went alone with her daughter to Surinam to get a firsthand view of exotic insects. That journey gave rise to an extraordinary book, The Metamorphosis of the Insects of Surinam, in 1704. We will discuss her life and work, and show reproductions of her art. This will all be led by a lecture from Liz Cannedy & Dan Hardy.
