A Big Thanks!
A big "Thank You" to our Gardeners for keeping the tool shed organized. Since the last big improvements were made for every tool to have a place to be hung our members are really doing a great job of returning tools. For the past 8 years of repairing and keeping the tools ready to be used the shed is looking so organized. Thank you for taking the time to put the tools back and cleaning the tools before storing them. The shed looks great!!!

Save the Date -- Saturday 9/21/19
The Khaki Weedout and Barbecue/Pot Luck will be held on Saturday September 21, 2019 at 5:00pm at Sunshine. It should be cooler by then. Please join your fellow gardeners as we make a concerted effort in our battle to control Khaki Weed. (Wear Gloves). Martin Morales gardener and barbecue master will have his rig at Sunshine for the carnivores. Please bring a side dish or dessert to add to the feast. A "survey monkey" will be sent out shortly so we can plan accordingly for attendance.
Faces of sunshine
Betty Chlystek Zone: 3
I grew up on a farm in Michigan so I was outdoors all the time growing up. My grandparents were all from Poland. They were incredible gardeners because they were mostly farmers - small town people. The farm I grew up on was only about a hundred acres. We always had livestock of some sort - chickens constantly - and we grew a lot of our own food in the summer. I grew up, fortunately, knowing what really good fresh food tastes like and of course that sticks with you; you don't lose that. So it's sad to me what's happened to agriculture in our country. I think the industrialization of agriculture has really been a big negative in many ways environmentally, in personal health, community-wise in terms of what's happened to rural communities. I've seen it in the area where I've grown up because we still have family up there.
So I love Sunshine Community Garden because to me it's like a small town, it's a village, and a family. I love taking care of my flower garden here and volunteering to help out where I can with the bigger garden needs; it's been a great experience. I think I've been here for maybe six years, (five, six, or seven years). I lose track.
